The loss of tourism due to the coronavirus pandemic has put an enormous strain on the local economy and on Basecamp Maasai Mara operations. In addition to this challenge, the country has been battling a massive locust invasion (the worst in 70 years, threatening food supply), and is still recovering from the Talek river floods earlier this year.

Even though we opened up again on August 1, tourism has still been extremely slow.  Tourism funding will be nowhere need what is needed for the lease payments to 613 conservancy land owners or 40 rangers’ salaries. The land owners have already taken a 50% cut in their payments and the rangers a 65% cut in pay. Please help us to support them during this challenging transition period.
